According to a presentation at the annual meeting of the American Urological Association on May 5, 2024, in San Antonio, TX, the answer is YES. The FDA approved Eroxon (MED3000), an over-the-counter topical gel, in June 2023 to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). Manufactured by Futura, Eroxon is expected to be available in 2025. Dr. Hellstrom of Tulane School of Medicine anticipates that this gel could become a first-line treatment option, comparable to well-known Viagra-class medications.
In the same presentation, two small studies compared MED3000 to 5 mg tadalafil (generic Cialis) over 12-24 weeks. The studies reported that 45-60% of gel users experienced erections within 10 minutes. The gel was slightly more effective when applied by a partner. Side effects for both drugs were similar, with tadalafil users experiencing a 4% incidence of headaches and MED3000 users experiencing a 2% incidence of penile burning sensation. While the cost in the U.S. has not been set, a four-pack of the gel sells for about $31 in the UK.
Eroxon is an over-the-counter gel applied topically to the glans (the penile head) developed to treat erectile dysfunction. It initially creates a cooling sensation followed by warming, which triggers the release of nitric oxide. This relaxes the smooth muscle and promotes the erection process. Its noninvasive application and over-the-counter availability make it an attractive option for men who may feel embarrassed to seek medical help for erectile dysfunction.

Eroxon (MED3000) may offer a quick-acting, affordable option with fewer side effects for men with erectile dysfunction. However, erectile dysfunction could indicate underlying serious health issues, so proper diagnosis and treatment are crucial.
